Meanwhile, the rupee depreciated 1.6 per cent in trade today. It hit an all-time low of 57.97 per dollar on the back of better-than-expected US jobs data. The partially convertible rupee closed at of 57.06 on Friday.
The 50-share index ended at 5,890.20, up 9.20 points or 0.16 per cent. It touched a high of 5,931.65 and a low of 5,857.40 in trade today.
The Sensex closed at 19,465.67, up 36.44 points or 0.19 per cent. It touched a high of 19,585.75 and a low of 19,366.82 in trade today.
The S&P BSE IT Index was up 1.03 per cent, the S&P BSE Oil & Gas Index was 0.23 per cent higher and the S&P BSE FMCG Index gained 0.21 per cent.
The S&P BSE Realty Index was down 1.35 per cent, the S&P BSE Bankex was 0.94 per cent lower and the S&P BSE Healthcare Index declined 0.90 per cent.

MARKET ANALYSIS
The Nifty pared intraday losses and closed in the positive terrain on Monday led by gains in technology, oil & gas and FMCG stocks.Meanwhile, the rupee depreciated 1.6 per cent in trade today. It hit an all-time low of 57.97 per dollar on the back of better-than-expected US jobs data. The partially convertible rupee closed at of 57.06 on Friday.
